Animals perish in Aylmer SPCA fire

Several animals died in the fire of the building housing the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Western Quebec, in the Aylmer sector.  The fire ravaged the 659, rue Auguste Mondoux, around 22:30, Monday evening.

"Despite the violence of the flames, firefighters have managed to rescue 12 dogs," says Gatineau operations fire chief Guy Dagenais. A collapse of the structure forced firefighters to evacuate the building urgently. An unknown number of animals have unfortunately perished. "

Several 9-1-1 calls were made by witnesses.

Thirty firefighters were confronted, as soon as he arrived, by a fire that ravaged the whole building.

No one was hurt.

The damages are estimated at half a million dollars.
